Students help three causes

Pupils and staff at Felpham Community College are currently enjoying their annual charity week extravaganza.

The Felpham Way college supports various charities throughout the academic year through organised events, with collections and non-school-uniform days.

But, the week before the February half-term holiday is always popular with students as it is the highlighted charity week in the college diary.

Students voted on which charities they would like to support this year with Help for Heroes, Cancer Research and Chestnut Tree House being chosen.

Students have been encouraged to put all their entrepreneurial skills to the test in order to raise as much money as possible.

The action-packed programme is co-ordinated by the sixth-form charity committee with students in every year group being involved.

Events this year include a charity football match, a swimathon, the annual Felpham’s Got Talent, dog walk and a sponsored male staff leg wax.

The long-standing tradition sees students and staff throw themselves into as many fundraising endeavours as possible.

In 2012, the college’s charity week raised more than £3,000 for St Wilfrid’s Hospice, the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

Competition is fierce, with students and staff hoping to beat that figure this year.

The nominated charities will be invited into college later in the term for a cheque presentation ceremony.
