Students in the nile

NINE students from across the world are in Shoreham this week to help prepare for this year's Beach Dreams festivals.

The volunteers have come from as far away as Malawi, Mexico and Denmark as part of an international exchange programme run by Hove-based charity Concordia.

This year's Beach Dreams event runs from noon to 11pm on Beach Green, Shoreham Beach, with plenty of live music, food and its famous processions. The theme of this year's event is the Nile.

Father Marcus Ronchetti said: "Beach Dreams is all about building relationships, making friendships and trying things that you never dreamed of.

"This year we really have a tremendous opportunity to meet with a befriend a group of really brilliant young things from quite different parts of the world.

"These volunteers are going of their time, talent and effort purely to support us in having an exceptional festival. Please come and meet them, and join in with the very creative atmosphere which is Beach Dreams."

There are two Beach Dreams parades, one leaves from the Church of the Good Shepherd at noon and the other will depart from Shoreham Beach First School in Shingle Road at the same time.

They will meet on Beach Green for a thrilling Egyptian performance starring children's television favourite Dave Benson Phillips.

Bands including Red Feather Scratch, Ska Toons and Go Tokyo will play on the stage throughout the afternoon and evening.

The second Beach Dreams fun run starts from Beach Green at 9am on Saturday, and will take runners to Lancing Green and back.

It costs 10 to enter and all profits will be split between Shoreham Beach First School, Beach Dreams and the RNLI.

Father Marcus added: "For many of us the highlight of Beach Dreams is the church service on Sunday morning in the marquee at 10am. This year it is going to be extra special and include some beautiful moments. We truly hope you can make it.

"One thing is for sure, and that is you never know what is going to happen next at a Beach Dreams extravaganza."
