Students on airwaves

Uckfield FM, the radio station which will be broadcasting from the Picture House during the Uckfield Festival 2003, has forged a link with Media Studies students at the Uckfield Community Technical College.

The students will join the radio station in their build up to the broadcast in July next year as part of their studies. They will also be producing programmes, providing features during the festival and even having their own youth programme.

Head of Media Studies at UCTC, Sally Wise, said: 'By coincidence, our project for this year is local radio. We are delighted that Uckfield FM is to broadcast and are offering the students hands on experience both on the run-up and during the broadcast.'

The students have also been invited to submit ideas for a logo for the station. The winning design will be used on the station's website, as well as on headed paper and flyers.

Uckfield FM spokesman Paddy Rea, said: 'Our broadcast will be for the whole community, what better way to involve the youngsters in the town than to offer them the facility to use their creativity and gain practical experience.'
