Students stage evening of Shakespeare at Michelham Priory

STUDENTS from Sussex Downs College staged An Evening of Shakespeare at Michelham Priory, near Upper Dicker, in front of an excited and enthusiastic audience.

Performing and Production Arts students from the college and the Lewes Youth Theatre presented a selection of monologues and scenes from the works of The Bard, including Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing.

Phil Rose, Performing Arts Lecturer, said: “It was a mystical evening of enchantment presented in a promenade style at the most unique venue in Britain, known for its ghosts and loved for its history.

“The production was set in the stunning house and the grounds of Michelham Priory and featured love, intrigue, jealousy, murder and fire.

“It was a joy to see Production Arts and Performing Arts Students from Sussex Downs College and Lewes Youth Theatre work at such a creative and professional level which exceeded all expectations.

“Audiences were speechless as they were totally encapsulated in the wonder of Shakespeare at the most perfect and most magical venue – Michelham Priory. A triumph on all levels.”
