Summer fun for Yapton youngsters

Fun and games are again taking place in Yapton village centre this week.

Dozens of children are joining in the annual Yapton Holiday Club for five to 11-year-olds.

Organised jointly by St Mary's and Yapton Free churches, this is the 16th year of the club.

Its action mostly takes place in a big top on King George V playing field. Duncan the Clown has returned to add a circus element to the activities between 10am and noon until tomorrow (Friday, August 1).

The fun includes a five-a side football tournament, a teddy bears' picnic for toddlers and their mothers and a cream tea for 60 elderly residents from homes in the surrounding villages.

They are being entertained with songs and recitations by Stacey Turner and some of the holiday club children today.

Tomorrow (Friday, August 1) evening will see the big top packed with the children and their families for the holiday club prize-giving when Duncan the Clown is expected to finally catch Yapton's energetic Pastor Hugo van Driel and dunk him in the gunge tank.
