The two day-spectacular attracted thousands of onlookers and included the crowning of the May Queen from Battle and Langton School.

She arrived at the Fayre at the head of the colourful parade down the High Street in the May Queen Carriage pulled by the Fighting Knights and accompanied by the Section 5 Drummers.

Kay Hunting said: “Battle’s Got Talent” was definitely the order of the day with Hunter’s Moon Morris, the Fighting Knights, Hands on History, the Battle Minstrels, Section 5 Drummers and the Battle Merry Maypolers all performing for the crowds, together with 1066 Lacemakers demonstrating how to make intricate lace, and 1066 Falconry with their fabulous feathered friends.

“Then of course there was Devilstick Pete who travels the world entertaining children in war zones to bring some joy in their lives, but who also loves to visit Battle each year for the Fayre.

“Hook a Horseshoe, Dunk the Dragon, and the Crossbow, Coconut and Chess Challenges also provided hours of fun for old and young alike.

“There was also the usual mix of “hands on” things for the children to make and take: potters taught children how to throw a pot; Hands on History provided a charcoal fired bread oven for children to get hands very sticky with dough and raisins and a mediaeval leather wrist band making machine to make and take a personalised band.

“Delicious food and drink was also provided by the Battle Bonfire Boyes with their spit roast, the Battle Chamber with mediaeval burgers and bangers from 1066 Butchers, mediaeval vegetarian comestibles provided by The Bull Inn, local organic wines from Sedlescombe Vineyard, local ciders of all types from Battle Cider, and ‘mediaeval candyfloss’ provided by the Battle Muffins who raise funds for local charities.

“The event was organised by volunteers from the Battle Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by many local businesses. The Chamber would like to thank all the sponsors and volunteer helpers, without whom the event could not take place.”
