Sun shines on Littlehampton artists displaying their skill

Glorious sunshine graced the Arts in the Courtyard event, in Evans Garden, Arcade Road, which saw gifted artists and musicians converge to show-off their skills to the masses.

Demonstrations were given by a number of artists taking part in the day, with visitors of all ages revelling in the chance to see how professionals create their pieces.

Among those demonstrating were David Freud, son of the renowned Lucian Freud, who died about two years ago. He provided a display on how he begins one of his portrait paintings.

Other guests of honour included musician Jonathan Kershaw and singer-songwriter Jaime Black, from Los Angeles.

The Littlehampton Organisation of Contemporary Art

(LOCA) organised the event in aid of children’s charity Raydar.

Evans Garden-based businesswoman Staci Quinn, of LOCA, said: “It was a fantastic mix of different artists and musicians.

“We had Jaime Black come over from Los Angeles, which was a real treat for Littlehampton to have someone like her playing in the town.

“There was a lot of audience interaction with the artists, which was great. We had wood carving displays which people really enjoyed seeing.”

This is the first of three Arts in the Courtyard events. The next two are on July 13 and August 10.

Next month will also see a week-long arts trail blaze a path through the town, starting with the Love Littlehampton Festival in the Park, on Saturday, July 20, on Caffyn’s Field.

The Arts Trail runs from July 20-27, with 25 venues stretching from Littlehampton Marina’s Boat House Café to Mewsbrook Park, including business premises, public buildings and the seafront.
