Sunniest June in years

Plenty of blue skies made last month the sunniest June in Bognor Regis for 12 years.

The start of summer was heralded by a blaze of sunshine as the monthly total of 277.6 hours was well above the 229.2 hours seasonal average. Sunniest day was the 30th with a glorious 14.7 hours.

This wall-to-wall sunshine ensured that temperatures were also well above the average. Warmest day was the 9th at 24.8C/76.6F to take the mean maximum temperature to 19C against an expected 17.8C.

The 12.2C mean minimum temperature compared well to the expected 11.4C.

The sunny and warm conditions made rainfall in short supply. Just 23.3m fell '“ less than half the 48.79mm seasonal average. A third of the rain came on just one day '“ the 8th '“ to make it easily the month's wettest.
