In a letter sent out this morning (January 14), the supermarket chain Lidl asks residents for their views on its plans to build a new store on Dittons Road, in Polegate.

The land, which is alongside the A22, was granted outline planning permission for 57 houses in 2013. If the green light is given for the new store, Lidl expects to be able to employ more than 40 full or part-time staff.

More details of the plans will be available at a meeting organised by Lidl later this month, where residents can try a range of the shop’s products.

The supermarket is also asking anyone who is in favour of a new store to contact Wealden District Council’s planning department or to sign a petition available on the retailer’s website.

Anyone who opposes the plans can also make their views heard through the council’s planning department.

The meeting will be held at the United Reformed Church Hall in Victoria Road on Wednesday, January 27 .
