Supermarket stabbing - knifeman wanted to drink the blood of a woman

The Bognor man who stabbed Lucy Yates in a frenzied supermarket attack wanted to drink the blood of an attractive woman, a court heard.

Lewes Crown Court heard that Samuel Reid-Wentworth, who pleaded guilty to attempted murder, harboured fantasies of drinking the blood of attractive young women, believing it would give him their "power".

He had boarded a bus at Portsmouth Harbour that day, with the intent of finding someone to kill.

Sentencing, judge Scott Gall, said: "On that day you went hunting for a victim.

"You were looking for an attractive young woman to drink her blood."

Dr Mrigendra Dash, of high-security hospital Broadmoor, said he considered Reid-Wentworth, who has suffered from mental health problems, including hallucinations and delusions, since he was eight years old, to be a risk to the public.

"He claimed he was getting messages from God and MI5, wanting him to kill people.

"He still has fleeting ideas about wanting to kill.
