Superstores recall products due to manufacturing errors

Two products have been recalled at major superstores.

Sainsbury’s is recalling its 1kg box of own-brand Wholegrain Bran Flakes with a best before date of August 2016 due to a production fault which has left some containing small pieces of plastic.

The official recall notice reads: “It has been brought to our attention that a limited number of packets may contain small pieces of plastic.

“As a precautionary measure, we are asking all customers who have bought this product to return it to the nearest Sainsbury’s store, where they will receive a full refund.”

No other products or date codes are affected by this issue and Sainsbury’s apologies for the inconvenience caused to shoppers.

Waitrose is recalling its own brand Asian Fusion Rice Noodles because of a manufacturing error.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg and/ or wheat (gluten).

Product details: Waitrose Asian Fusion Rice Noodles, 300g with ‘Use by’ date: 6 September (2015)

The food Standards Agency are advising Waitrose consumers who have bought the product and have an allergy or intolerance to egg and/ or wheat (gluten), not to eat it.

Instead, return the product to any Waitrose store.

Waitrose has recalled the product from consumers and have contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

The company will be displaying point-of-sale notices in stores. A copy of this notice is attached below.

No other Waitrose products are known to be affected.
