Support for visually impaired

VISUALLY impaired people locally could receive a grant of up to £2,700 to make their homes warmer, healthier and more energy efficient.

East Sussex Association for the Blind is working with the Warm Front Team, which is a government funded initiative, to help blind and partially sighted people living locally to access grants for improvements to their home insulation and heating.

The grant can be used to pay for loft insulation, draught-proofing, cavity wall insulation, and hot water tank insulation. It can also be used to install gas, electric or oil central heating, to make repairs to existing heating or convert a solid fuel open fire to a glass fronted fire. Some homes that need oil central heating may receive a grant of up to 4,000.

All work is undertaken by companies approved by Warm Front, with a full assessment in advance of what is needed and an inspection of the work carried out.

This particular grant is for people who own their own home or rent from a private landlord and who receive certain benefits. However, for people who are not on those benefits already, Warm Front can check if you are eligible for benefits and help you to apply for them.

East Sussex Association for the Blind can refer blind and partially sighted people to Warm Front direct and are happy to tell people more about the grant. To find out more call them on 01323 832252.
