He said he owes his transformation to continuing research by the foundation and a skilled team at the Royal Brompton Hospital where he had heart surgery.

“In August 2003 I was fitted with a pacemaker, I felt like death warmed up, because my heart was ‘all over the place’.

“In January 2014 I was still struggling, I even found it difficult to climb a flight of stairs.

“I was fortunate enough to be referred to the Royal Brompton Hospital. The cardiologist said ‘I can make a new man of you’, I could not believe my ears. In July 2014 I had heart surgery at the Brompton and I became that New Man!

“I asked how is this possible? It is thanks to continuing research by the British Heart Foundation and the care of a highly skilled team.

“So now it is my turn to put something back to show my appreciation for the care I am receiving.”

He is being supported on Sunday by his daughter Debbie Coleman who will be riding alongside her father.
