Surprise gifts for Lucy's birthday

An Aldwick woman enjoyed a surprise 97th birthday celebration.

Lucy Crew was presented with a selection of gifts by MP Nick Gibb at the Aldwick Preservation Society's Christmas fair.

Mrs Crew received a wine bottle holder, carved by society member Paul Bignell, a bottle of House of Commons wine and a photograph on canvas of herself as a baby.

The presentation was the highlight of the society's annual fundraiser.

More than 200 people turned out for the event at the Willowhale Community Centre.

Their support raised 794 for the society's work looking after Aldwick Duck Pond.

Chairman John Covell said: "I am most grateful to all those who had contributed to such a successful event and showed their support for the society in such a practical way."
