Rail Union RMT has confirmed today (Friday July 3) that a ballot of engineering grade members on Southern Rail’s train operations resulted in a 9-1 majority for strike action and an even bigger vote for action short of a strike.

The 24-hour strikes will be from 4.59pm on Sunday July 12 and 4.59pm on Friday July 17.

In addition, the RMT says that members have been instructed not to work any overtime, between:

5pm on Friday July 10 and 4.59pm on Sunday July 12.

The RMT has blamed ‘a comprehensive breakdown in industrial relations’ for the industrial action.
