Sussex Decides: Wealden turns blue as election result put Conservatives on top

There were cheers and clapping as the final result was announced at the Wealden election count.

The count took place at the East Sussex National Golf Resort in Little Horsted on Friday morning (May 8).

Nus won with 32,508 votes which was more than her predecessor Charles Hendry who got 31,090.

Nus said she wanted to thank every one for their votes, and her family and party for their support.

Speaking to the Sussex Express she said: I am absolutely delighted. It is all just sinking in as we only heard a few minutes ago.

“I want to thank the residents for voting for me and trusting me to be their voice. I will be strong voice for them locally and in parliament.

“I started in 2013 when I was chosen to be the candidate for the Conservatives in and it has been a hard fought campaign since then. And I will continue to work hard for residents and be their strong voice in Wealden.”

Nus stood at the 2010 General Election in Birmingham Ladywood and has also been Deputy Chairman for the Brentford and Isleworth Conservatives Association.

She worked for the BBC World Service in conflict zones.

She has campaigned for better train services, broadband, importance of community hospitals and behalf on Wealden’s farming community.

She beat Labour’s Solomon Curtis (6165) Liberal Democrat’s Giles Goodall (5,180) Green’s Mark Smith (3,623) and UKIP’s Peter Griffith (9,541).
