SUSSEX Housing and Care has applied to Lewes District Council for planning permission to transform an old people’s home into flats for the elderly.

The company wants to demolish Cheneys Care Home and extensions to Ronald Simpson House at 24 Sutton Avenue. In its place it hopes to build 37 one and two bed extra care flats.

These will include communal and support facilities, plus offices, car parking and highways alterations. A district council planning committee will have the final say on the scheme.

SHC closed Cheneys because it was no longer viable.
