Sussex Marathon to begin in Heathfield

PLANS for the Sussex Marathon 2010 have been launched. The route begins at Heathfield Community Centre and takes runners along a demanding route through Warbleton, Rushlake Green and Vines Cross.

Race director Paul Holdaway said: “The course is a challenging, hilly route but the absolutely stunning rural Sussex scenery will make the effort worthwhile.”

Last year’s first Sussex marathon was based on Battle.

The 26.2 mile race is set to take place on April 1 starting at 9am. Half marathon runners can complete a clockwise loop returning to Heathfield via Punnetts Town and Rushlake Green. The second anti-clockwise lap of the marathon takes in Vines Cross. Roads will be closed to through traffic and re-opened once runners have passed through. Full permissions are still required from East Sussex County Council but so far Heathfield and Waldron parish councillors have given the proposal their blessing. Funds raised will be go to the town’s swimming pool project and there will be opportunities for children to take part in their own races. Details at:
