Sussex Police officer suspended amid threats to kill charge

A police officer has appeared at Lewes Crown Court accused of making threats to kill and perverting the course of justice.

PC Ian Noakes, 41, from Lewes has been suspended from his duties at Brighton.

His court case was adjourned.

Sussex Police say the threats to kill charge, dated January 9, involved two people known to Noakes.

He is also charged with perverting the course of justice.

Noakes is currently suspended from police duty pending a trial which is due to begin the week commencing June 28.

A Sussex Police statement said, “PC Ian Noakes, 41, based at Brighton appeared at Lewes Crown Court on Friday (19 February). It is alleged that on Saturday 9 January, Noakes, who was off duty at the time, made threats to kill two people who he knew.

“He also faced a charge of perverting the course of justice.

“He will next appear on June 28 at a court yet to be decided. Noakes has been suspended from duties while the investigation is ongoing.”
