Sussex professor appointed as Corbyn economic adviser

A Sussex University academic has been appointed to a team of seven economists who will advise Jeremy Corbyn, the new leader of the Labour Party.

In an article yesterday, Mariana Mazzucato gave some early thoughts on the future direction of Labour policy.

She wrote: 'We must drop the false dichotomy of governments versus markets and begin to think more clearly about the market outcomes we want.

'For starters, we must invest in education, human capital, technology, and research.'

She talks about raising wages and the standards of living, and making the tax system more progressive.

Ms Mazzucato is a professor in Economics of Innovation at the University of Sussex, and advises policy makers around the world on economic growth.
