Sussex Snowdrop Trust retains publics affection

For some charities, hardship is commonplace with many struggling to survive.

Sussex Snowdrop Trust seems to be the exception to this rule, and while £350,000 is spent on direct family care and wages of staff, it is testament to the trust’s reputation that they are able to pass what could be a huge obstacle with colours.

Co-founder Diane Levantine said: “This figure is raised in a number of ways, with major fundraising projects, legacies and donations.

“It warms my heart that we comfortably reach our target, and makes me have faith in humanity.”

It is often believed that the NHS fund charities, however the majority are in fact private enterprises and depend entirely on the kind spirit of the community.

Asked whether there was competition between local charities due to the economic hardships, Mrs Levantine said: “We are all very kind to each other, and help each other out when we can.

“It is very difficult to get people to understand what local community nursing is about, therefore we need to raise awareness in any way we can.”

The Sussex Snowdrop Trust was established in 1993 by Kate Shaw, Diana Levantine and Frank Snell (who sadly died in April 2004) with the aim of providing relief to very sick children and their parents who may be struggling with the ongoing trauma.
