Sussex widow warns against drink driving

A MOTHER-of-two whose husband was killed by a driver who had been drinking has filmed a video to try to encourage motorists not to mix alcohol and the roads.

Toby Lindgren died after his Ford Fiesta was hit by the Honda Civic of James Daily, who had been drinking the night before and was fiddling with his radio when the crash happened.

Daily, then 26, of Cleve Way, Billingshurst, was jailed for four years and banned from driving for four years after he pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Hove Crown Court in March 2009.

Mr Lindgren, from Thakeham, in Sussex, left behind his wife Kirsty and their two children after his death in the crash at 7.20am on June 4, 2008 in Adversane Lane, Adversane.

Now Mrs Lindgren has filmed a video with Sussex Police in which she talks with emotion about how she had to tell her children that their father would never be coming home.

Chief Inspector Natalie Moloney said: “I am so grateful to Kirsty for having the strength to support the message that motorists should drink or drive.

“It was very difficult for her to relive the moments after she was told Toby had died but I hope her video will strike home to drivers the impact that drinking and driving can have.

“Hopefully it will also persuade partners of drink-drivers to convince their other halves to stop putting their lives at risk and the lives of other road users.”
