SUSTAINABILILTY GOES DOWN WELL

Lewes District Council's Local Sustainability Team saw their sustainability message receive a great response at the Midsummer Sensations event that took place at Chatsworth Park, Telscombe Cliffs last weekend.

The team was busy with a number of stalls and activities for all ages, including solar car races, renewable workshops, solar powered presentations and a sustainability stall.

Kids displayed their green creativity by designing their own individual little turbines, made up of a solar panel and fan, which they painted and illustrated with great imagination.

Matthew Bird, Lewes District Council Sustainability Officer, said: "The solar workshops for our young participants proved to be an excellent way to educate while having fun, and will hopefully stay with the kids as a really positive experience. We are very pleased that the Council's sustainability message was so well received by all other age groups as well."

The Local Sustainability Team saw a great interest in water saving tips and distributed over one-hundred save-a-flush bags, which had been kindly donated by Southern Water. The team provided advice about renewable sources of energy, water saving and information about Lewes District Council's Draft Climate Change Strategy.

The Council is urging householders in the district to consider alternative fuels when planning to install new heating systems or appliances and is offering a variety of grants for domestic renewable energy systems.
