Swan found badly injured released back into wild

Julie Saunderson, 43, from East Preston, discovered the swan on the banks of the River Arun, in South Stoke, while walking with her friend.

Julie, a receptionist at the Fitzalan Veterinary Surgery, in Fitzalan Road, Littlehampton, was also at its release ten days later.

She said: “It was lovely. I have never seen anything like it before. It just took seconds. It was unbelievable.”

It is believed the male swan, nicknamed Walter White by veterinary staff, had been attacked by another swan before being bitten by a dog.

Julie said it had a badly bruised chest and a bite wound on its neck which was covered in flies.

The swan was treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories at the Fitzalan vets over a ten-day period, before it was released last Monday.
