Swimmers and others helped fundraising

Former Mayor of Haywards Heath John Sabin has handed over the latest amount raised for charity.

This time it was £180, the final donation in his nominated fundraising year having presented cheques to same organisations a few months ago.

The Lions President Peter Parr presented a cheque to Fi McLachlan, Chairman of Haywards Heath Foodbank and Jayne Todd, community fundraiser representing Chestnut Tree House.

Haywards Heath Town Council entered a team, which included council staff and others with a close connection, who were asked to commit one hour of their time to swim a few lengths to help raise funds for Haywards Heath Lions and the Mayor’s chosen Charities of Haywards Heath Foodbank and Chestnut Tree House.

Fi McLachlan, said: “’As a community charity, serving the local community in Haywards Heath and surrounding villages, Foodbank is thrilled to receive the support from local people swimming in the Swimarathon.

“Every contribution enables us to serve an increasing number of people who are hitting hard times and need help through a financial crisis with food.

“Sad though it is that we need such a service, the stress caused to many who just can’t make ends meet due to some unexpected crisis can be alleviated to some degree through this help.”

A spokesman for Chestnut Tree House, said: “We are delighted to receive this cheque. As the only children’s hospice in Sussex, Chestnut Tree House receives just 7% of its funding from the government and so relies almost entirely on the generosity of the local community.”
