SWIMMING: Joyous Jago in double delight

SEVEN swimmers stole a march on their rivals at the Hailsham club's second championship of the season, winning both events and leading their age-groups with just one title gala remaining in September.

Youngest double-winner on the night was Jago Leckie in the boys 8-and-under section. He stormed to new rcords in 25m backstroke (23.97) and butterfly (23.50) ahead of Cameron Bax, Sam Bird and Jacob Walter.

Craig Steenhoff ominated the boys open races as expected and he showd his zeal by positing a new club record for 100m backstroke with a superb 1.14.13.

As usual, there was a tremendous interest in the 25m tadpoles race. Birdie Bax showed great speed to win with a fine time of 26.93 ahead of Hollie Macdonald, Reecca Carter and Billy Seed, but the loudest applause of the evening was reserved for 5-year-old Isaac Leckie who swam doggedly to complete his length in 1.17.40.
