Sword attack: Second man jailed

A SIDLEY store manager involved in an attack on a teenager whose hand was sliced in half with a samurai sword has been jailed for 12 months.

Rakakaran Thurairajah, 28, was one of two men who chased after Leon Whyborne, 18, after newspapers outside the Londis store in Ninfield Road, which he ran, were set alight by youths.

Hove Crown Court heard how Mr Whyborne, a yardsman, has been unable to return to work after his hand was slashed, leaving it partly useless for the rest of his life.

Last month, Thurairajah's co-defendant Angelo Lazarus, 21, was jailed for 21 months after a jury convicted him of wounding but cleared of a more serious charge of wounding with intent after they failed to find he was the one wielding the sword.
