Talented youngsters to perform atGlyndebourne Opera House, Lewes

The young performers, who all hail from Hastings and St Leonards, will take part in the world premiere of a new opera adapted from an award-winning book for young adults called ‘Nothing’, which is co-commissioned and co-produced by Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House. ‘Nothing’, often described as a modern day Lord of the Flies, was written by Danish author Janne Teller and has been adapted as an opera by composer David Bruce and librettist Glyn Maxwell.

Tyler Sargent, 18, Andras Jacobs, 18 and Esther Seal, 16, all members of Glyndebourne Youth Opera (GYO), successfully auditioned for places in the chorus of the new production. CiCi Carey-Stuart, 18, will play clarinet in the orchestra pit alongside professional musicians from Southbank Sinfonia conducted by Sian Edwards.

Andras says ​‘Nothing’ is the biggest production he’s been involved in​. “It’s really exciting to start rehearsing on the stage with the set and you can see the show coming together now,” he said. “I’d love to pursue a career as a​ ​performer and this experience is invaluable.”

Tyler says GYO gives young people the opportunity to perform with professionals, to a professional standard, at a professional venue. “To be given the opportunity to do that is absolutely amazing,” he said. ‘Nothing’ will be performed at Glyndebourne on February 25,26 and 27.
