Talk and tea in Shoreham marks National Libraries Day

Award-winning author and historian Nicola Cornick

The special event on Saturday, February 6, at 2.30pm has been organised to celebrate National Libraries Day.

Nicola published her first novel in 1998 and since then, her books have become international bestsellers.

Her latest novel, House of Shadows, tells a family story covering three different centuries at the same property.

Published in November 2015, it is a thrilling time slip novel telling the true historical story of the secret marriage of William Craven and Elizabeth, the Winter Queen, and is set in three time periods - the 17th century, the 19th century and the present day.

Nicola has been shortlisted four times for the US Romance Writers of America RITA Award and twice for the UK Romantic Novelists Association Romance Prize.

She studied history at the University of London and, in later life, achieved a master’s degree in public history at Ruskin College, Oxford.

Nicola, who lives in Oxfordshire, will be discussing the history of the Craven family and the Winter Queen at the Shoreham talk.

Jane Austen descended from the Craven family and one Lord Craven was the inspiration behind Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility.

Genealogy is one of Nicola’s passions and she has traced her own family tree back to the 16th century by way of various poets, pirates and a link to the Earldom of Halifax.

Afternoon tea will be served while Nicola tells the fascinating story of the Winter Queen and there will be an opportunity to speak to her afterwards, buy copies of her book and have it personally signed.

Tickets, to include refreshments, cost £3 and are available from Shoreham Library, in St Mary’s Road, Shoreham.
