It is covered with 1,800 lights with a special animal-shaped lantern placed on the top.

The Arboriculture team worked from platforms and specialist climbers were suspended from ropes within the tree itself to festoon the branches with the lights.

The dressing of the tree marks the start of preparations for Wakehurst’s most popular event of the year, the Glow Wild lantern festival.

The botanical gardens woodlands and Mansion will come alive after dark with hundreds of twinkling lanterns and torches of fire.
