Tax credits petition handed to Bexhill and Battle MP

The petition against cuts to tax credits for Bexhill and Battle was handed to the constituency’s MP today (Monday, November 23).

38 Degrees’ Sally Goring personally gave the box of 480 signatures to Huw Merriman’s personal assistant as he was at the House of Commons.

It was initially thought 364 residents had signed but the figure had increased since Thursday.

The petition is part of a national campaign and 165,173 people signed across the UK, appealing for the government to scrap plans to change the benefits system.

Prior to handing in the petition Mrs Goring said: “We’re very much hoping that the information we give him will change his mind – this is what we are aiming for.

“He needs to know more deeply and understand how it will effect people and families.”
