Tax freeze for Yapton

Thrifty Yapton parish councillors have frozen their share of council tax for the fifth year running.

The frugal individuals decided the amount they raise from local villagers should remain at 30.78 for a band D household from April.

This sum will provide 40,000 for the coming 12 months for the council to look after the village playing field, children's play area and other services such as bus shelters.

Parish council chairman Cllr Stephen Haymes said: "Our costs continue to rise but we believe, by careful management, that the quality of local services which the parish council provides for the residents of Yapton can all be maintained within the existing budget."

It was hoped next year to provide lighting for the popular all-purpose sports enclosure to extend its use in the winter evenings, he stated.

Another intended project for the coming months was to improve security for the children's play area. The site has suffered occasional outbreaks of vandalism.
