Taxi driver receives head injuries in knife attack

A TAXI driver has told how he feared for his life during a brutal knife attack.

Stuart Glazier, 33, was stabbed in the head with a kitchen knife while dropping off a fare in Hughenden Road but escaped with minor injuries.

He believes the fact the knife was blunt was all that saved him.

Mr Glazier said: "I picked up the man and he told me he wanted to go to his friend's house. You could smell the alcohol on him and he seemed a little strange but he just sat in the back not saying a word.

"When we got to Hughenden Road he asked me to drop him outside the Beaconsfield pub and then completely out of the blue he went for me, stabbing me in the side of the head while I was still driving.

"I put my arms up to protect myself and tried to get out of the car. He stabbed me four times in the arm while I was trying to get away.

"He jumped out of the car and we both stood facing each other over the roof of the car and he was screaming at me, telling me he was going to kill me.

"I was scared and did not know what he was going to do to me so I grabbed a torch from the car for protection. He turned and ran. I chased after him but when he ran down some steps I didn't follow because I didn't want to put myself in more danger."

Mr Glazier then went to hospital where his head wound was treated and the slashes on his arm dressed. Doctors told him the knife had narrowly missed a main vein.

He described his attacker as 5'10", skinny build, with collar length dark brown hair and wearing blue tracksuit bottoms and a blue t-shirt.

The assault happened just before 10pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 28, and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Mr Glazier, a taxi driver for the last five years, said the attack has not just left a physical mark on him.

He said: "You occasionally get the odd drunk causing trouble but I have never experienced anything like this. It was the shock of the attack more than anything which threw me."
