Teacher had noaccess to pupils

Matthew Brown was banned from the country’s classrooms for at least two years after it was found that he had lied in job applications.

Mr Swatton said this week: “For the record, that Mr Brown has never taught pupils at the College but was employed by Claverham Community Education Department as a lecturer to adults as a part of our Adult Education programme.

“I feel that members of the local community and the wider public would get the wrong impression that Mr Brown taught school age pupils at the College, this has never happened.

“When the issue regarding Mr Brown’s reference for a subsequent job came to light, members of staff from Claverham Community Education Department and the wider College worked closely with The National College for Teaching and Leadership to provide them with information regarding the case, and assisted their professional conduct panel in reaching a decision concerning Mr Brown’s future in the teaching profession.”

A professional conduct panel for the National College for Teaching and Leadership said that Brown had exaggerated his GCSE qualifications and the level of the role he played in previous establishments when applying for a Head of ICT post at a school in Cobham.

The panel said his actions were ‘deliberate and dishonest.”
