Teacher takes stock at fair

DESPITE escaping most of Saturday's wet weather at Arundel CE School's summer fair, deputy head teacher Andrew Simpson still got a soaking.

Visitors raised 40 to put Mr Simpson into the stocks, where he was pleased to get a hosing down to raised money for the school.

The event was opened at 11am by Arundel mayor Colin Heriot and his wife Jackie, and it raised a total 1,300 which will help to fit out the last two classrooms with interactive whiteboards that can be linked to computers.

The fair's King and Queen, Alexander Harris, 11, and Emily Telford, 10, were crowned and helped to preside over the day with their two attendants Holly Tideswell, 10, and Keashia Hill, 11.

As well as stalls, sideshows and games, visitors were treated to traditional country dancing performed by pupils from years four and five.

Head teacher Linda Davies said: "The fair was a great success.

"We got away with the weather and only at around 1pm did the heavens open but everyone moved inside for the raffle and some more dancing.

"I'd like to thank all the Friends of Arundel CE School (Faces) for their hard work, especially the chairman Alison Whitburn whose daughter is leaving the school and so for whom this was the last one.

"We are very grateful for her support over the last seven years."
