Teachers visit school for lessons

The group of eight visitors spent a day at The Regis School.

Their visit came during a 12-day course at the town’s University of Chichester campus to enable the English teachers to improve their language skills.

One of them, Dagmar Pfeifer, said: “The thing that impressed me the most at the school was the tutorial system that goes through the different ages.

“It’s a really good idea to soften the differences between all these different social backgrounds that exist and to prepare them for life. It does not exist in Germany.”

David Jones, the principal of The Regis School, said: “Our visitors have been in all sorts of lessons right across the school.

“They have sat in on different ages and different subjects to get the feel of what happens in an English school.

“It’s a case of us being able to share good practice with them and of seeing what they can help us with.”

The visit to the Westloats Lane school last Friday also included a meeting with the Bognor Regis and Littlehampton MP, Nick Gibb.

Mr Gibb told them German was the top language requested by British businesses because of the size of the country’s economy and its proximity.

“German is declining as a study language in this country, which is unfortunate,” he said.

The visitors stayed with host families across Bognor to immerse themselves in English life.
