Costa Coffee staff swapped their coffee beans for a different type of energy boost when they took part in a gruelling cycle challenge to raise money for charity.
Rachel Eccott, Ashlee Martin, Amy Hemsley, Holly Taylor, Zoe Milbourn, Annie Ford, Aaron Halsey, David Bracey, and Matt Pierce from the Hailsham branch rode 25 miles from the West Pier in Brighton and Hove to Eastbourne Pier.
The group took part in the challenge on November 10 to raise money for St Wilfrid’s Hospice.
Store manager Rachel Eccott said: “It went really well and we did it in about three hours which we didn’t think was too bad.
“The bike ride itself wasn’t too bad at all.
“Some of us have done bike rides like this before and so we knew what to expect.
“The weather was good on the day, it was quite cloudy but we did get a bit of sun and it wasn’t too cold.
“When we got to the end we were all so proud of ourselves and really happy to have done it.”
The group’s friends and families surprised the cyclists by lining the finish line at Eastbourne Pier on the day.
Rachel continued: “We didn’t realise they were going to be there.
“Our parents were there at the end, it was really nice and they were cheering us on.”
Rachel said the group raised £580 for the hospice and they are hoping to get up to a total of £1,000.
Rachel said: “We are raising money for St Wilfrid’s Hospice as a staff member has a family member in the hospice.
“Our target is to raise £1,000 for the hospice.
“We are still fundraising and some of the boys from Costa Coffee are going to be having their legs waxed!”
St Wilfrid’s Hospice is based in Eastbourne.
It has recently opened a brand new state-of-the-art facility to help care for people with terminal illness.
Building work on the new St Wilfrid’s Hospice was completed in August. The hospice cost £11.5 million and has 20 private bedrooms which each open out onto a garden area and have en suite facilities. It also has therapy rooms, day care facilities, office space and a community coffee shop.
