Team put fitness first over diabetes

MORE exercise could prevent an increase in diabetes in the Bognor Regis area.

People living across the Arun district are being urged to do more exercise to prevent cases of diabetes.

The appeal from Arun Wellbeing follows news that, thanks to the UK’s obesity epidemic, diabetes cases are set to rise by 700,000 nationally over the next eight years – to 4.4million.

In Arun, around 7,700 residents have already been diagnosed with diabetes some 5.1 per cent of the population. Paul Wotherspoon Arun’s cabinet responsible for Arun Wellbeing, said: “By making a few positive changes to your daily routine, like walking instead of using the car or choosing to snack on fruit instead of biscuits or chocolate, you could help protect yourself against conditions such as diabetes, that are linked to an unhealthy lifestyle.

“Arun Wellbeing can offer free or low cost help to people who want to improve their health, and I would urge residents to take advantage of this.”

The wellbeing team can support people who want to lose weight through the new ten-week adult healthy weight programme, being run in partnership with Inspire Leisure.
