Team to sleep rough for charity

A TEAM of housing officers will spend a night sleeping under the stars to raise vital funds for a local refuge.

On Saturday the intrepid Arun District Council officers will swap their comfy beds for cardboard boxes to get a taste of what life is like for many young people in the district.

They hope to raise as much money as possible for St Joseph’s refuge in Chichester where many youngsters from across Arun are referred for help and support.

The group will sleep rough with just a sleeping bag for warmth at Chichester Cathedral to experience the cold and vulnerability that many people endure in the winter months.

The event has been organised by charity Stonepillow, which offers shelter, information and support to empower homeless and vulnerable people to make positive changes in their lives.

The team comprises eight staff members and a former housing manager who is taking her dog along for company.

Along with sponsorship money, the team is urging people to donate items such as in-date tins of food, soap and money-off vouchers which will all go to St Joseph’s.
