TECHNOLOGY USED TO SNARE CROOKS

A SPECIAL operation involving ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) ran daily last week in East Sussex.

ANPR equipment identifies vehicles being used in crime or which have no insurance or MOT.

It will continue in Wealden throughout the summer.

Sgt Dave Price said: 'Law-abiding people have absolutely nothing to fear from this equipment.

'Indeed many people drive past our reader, which is situated on the side of the road and do not even realise they have been checked.

'However, criminals and people with illegal cars will be quickly identified, stopped, and dealt with.

'This equipment makes it much harder for criminals to use our roads on the Wealden area.'
