A Hailsham charity has helped two foreign students complete a work experience programme in the town.
Computers for Charities welcomed two French teenagers to the town through the EU Leonardo da Vinci work experience programme.
The work experience students were from Normandy’s Lycee Louis Modeste Leroy.
The pair are celebrating after completing four weeks’ work experience with the Hailsham charity.
The Da Vinci programme primarily enables EU students to gain short and long term work experience worldwide.
Simon Rooksby, chairman of the charity, said Computers for Charities had provided varying unfunded work and voluntary experience for many years to local colleges.
It also works with the Princes Trust, prison services, unemployed people, disabled and retired residents across the county.
Antoine, 17, who is studying design in France, was able to provide valuable creative input to aid the Computers for Charities stand at the forthcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed.
His 18-year-old fellow student Julien, who is studying IT, provided input at the charity’s Hailsham workshop.
Although both students were unfamiliar with the UK, let alone Hailsham, they were both able to learn about the charity as well as the English language and food, said a charity spokesman.
Computers for Charities is a charitable organisation established in 1994.
In addition to providing refurbished computer equipment, they also respond to requests for computer-related help.
Recycling for Charities was established in 2005.
They can provide compliant disposal of electronic waste for a range of companies, in accordance with EU WEEE directives.
Both organisations are based in Hailsham.
Simon said: “As many people are aware, over the years Computers for Charities has become a diverse charity locally and wider afield, whose doors remain very much open to provide opportunities and experience where needed.”
The charities are also looking for used hardware to enable them to provide people of limited means a way of accessing a computer in and around the Hailsham area.
