Teenager arrested on suspicion of theft and drug possession

A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of theft and possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply.

The arrest follows an incident at the Wilkinson’s store in Swan Walk shopping centre on Wednesday (October 14).

Police were called to reports of shoplifting at the store at 4.10pm.

Officers said a search of the area was made and a youth answering the description of the alleged offender was detained nearby.

A police spokesman said that later a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft.

He has been bailed until November 9 while enquiries continue.

The spokesman added the same boy was also arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis, a Class B restricted drug, with intent to supply.

He has been bailed until December 15 with regard to the offence.
