Teenager attacked on train in broad daylight

A vicious attack on a train in Bexhill left a teenager requiring hospital treatment for a broken nose and bruised face.

British Transport Police (BTP) officers released an image of a man (right) they want to question following the attack on a train travelling between Bexhill and Collington at 1pm on Saturday, March 6.

The 17-year-old victim, who boarded the train at Bexhill, brushed passed his attacker, who swung a punch in retaliation but missed.

PC Paul Gardner, investigating officer, said: "When the victim tried to defend himself the man put him in a headlock and repeatedly punched and kicked him in front of a number of horrified passengers before leaving the train at Collington."

BTP officers released the CCTV image this week as part of an appeal for Bexhill residents to come forward if they have any information about the incident.

PC Gardner added: "This was a vicious attack on a man simply going about his business and if you recognise the man pictured in the CCTV image then we want to hear from you.

"Thankfully this sort of attack is rare on the rail network, and this incident is being treated very seriously.
