James Carlier, 19, and his friend Jasminda Sahota, 19, will be heading to Windsor to plummet an astonishing 300 feet through the air and make a big donation to Action on Addiction, a UK charity that helps treat and rehabilitate addicts.

James’ father, who sadly passed away of a brain haemorrhage in 2011 at just 55, spent 25 years of his life helping those in the ‘grip of addiction’.

“My Father Kevin was an inspirational role model to so many people,” said James.

“He worked very closely with people from all walks of life who were in the grip of addiction, which is the biggest preventable killer in the UK.

“His support gained him so much respect from hundreds of people - 18 months before his death, he helped to raise a substantial sum of money to help young men who were at risk from suicide.

“My dad taught me that it’s not a choice for people to be addicts - it’s an illness. I think that’s really important.”

The childhood friends who grew up in Roffey, will have their feet tied together and must hold onto each other as they fall head first towards Bray Lake below.

“I can’t even do Thorpe Park (laughs),” said Jasminda. “My parents think it’s a bit mad, but we’re going to have people come watch us and film the jump.”

Currently studying politics in Newcastle University, James will be taking the big leap with Collyer’s student Jasminda on August 25.

Their aim was originally to raise £500, but they have unexpectedly surpassed their target and hope to make more.
