Teenager’s documentary set in Horsham explores housing concerns

As part of his Television and Film Production course at the University of Portsmouth, Euan McDougall, 19, from Horsham, was tasked with producing a short documentary.

He and other students decided to focus on the national increase in housing, and chose to set the film in Horsham.

After filming in February, Euan posted the finished film on Facebook, where it has sparked local debate.

He said: “I wasn’t sure if it could be done, or if there was any point behind it, but I am quite proud of the response it has generated.

“It has got quite a lot of local interest, but the hope was other people from other areas would see it and see they are facing the same issues.”

Euan initially asked for volunteers to submit their opinions before Christmas, and received more responses than he could use in the final cut.

He added that the film would not have been possible without people responding, and the feedback has been mostly positive.

He said: “I am quite happy that most people agreed with the points we were making.

“If there was some sort of response from someone who can do something, that would be fantastic.”

The aspiring film-maker added: “It is the kind of thing I wanted to be doing in the first place, but having had a taste I want to do more.”
