SUMMER FAYRE: Peacehaven Summer Fayre, Saturday July 16, 11am to 3pm at the Big Park. The Chamber is having a stand at the Summer Fayre with a simple game winning sweeties, so bring the kids along and say hello, they will definitely want to have a go on our game. If you are able to help out for half an hour on the stand (so we can have a comfort break and get a coffee) we would be very grateful. See you there.

FOOTNOTES: Being almost entirely reliant on my state pension, plus a small weekly pension credit payment, I was somewhat alarmed to receive a phone call from a gent explaining that later in the week I would receive another phone call from yet another gent who would re-assess my Pension Credit.

This was promised at 3pm. The phone on the day eventually rang at 4.30pm, just as I was on the point of ringing them, and I dutifully answered all the list of questions.

Finishing off after about 15 minutes, with a sinister, ‘You will hear from us later’. Since then nothing. I await their verdict with some trepidation.

Endless filling of forms and assurances of my having a house with a large garden, no other dogs, a 50 year experience of rearing Golden Retrievers from the puppy stage, etc. I left each rescue centre feeling emotionally drained and almost in tears at the sight of so many abandoned animals.

For anyone who wants to put a face to these notes, I am appearing at the West Rocks Hotel, Eastbourne, on Tuesday to read the final entries for a short story competition run by Anderida Writers. Full address is 44/46 Grand Parade, Eastbourne.

Come along, you’re more than welcome. Have a great week and go safely, wherever life takes you.
