FLOWER CLUB: Peacehaven and Telscombe Flower Club meet on the third Wednesay of each month, 2pm for 2.30pm at the Civic Centre with floral demonstrations.

EVENING OF MEDIUMSHIP: First Friday of each month at the civic centre, 645pm for 7.30pm. Ticket price £7, entry on the door available. Contact Dawn on 07951 947709.

CHILDREN’S DANCE CLASS: Every Tuesday at the Civic Centre, 9.15am to 9.45am for pre-school age 2 to 4 years, £3.50 per session. Contact Anneli Smith via Civic Centre, 01273 589777.

CATS CLUB: Telscombe Town Council to the rescue. The CATS Club is a registered charity (and Ofsted registered) which runs a breakfast and afterschool club for approximately 35 children aged 3 to 14 years of age from Monday to Friday. During school holidays it offers an all-day activity scheme. The CATS Club has operated in Peacehaven for the last 16 years but their current lease is due to expire at the end of July 2016 and no alternative location has been found. The CATS Club provides a much needed service for Telscombe (148 children from Telscombe area are registered with the scheme) and we couldn’t see them homeless. The Club is therefore temporarily coming to Telscombe Civic Centre during August and September whilst we try to find an alternative permanent location. We are currently looking at a proposal to house the CATS Club at Chatsworth Park, off of Kirby Drive. MEMORY GARDEN: A memory garden is being created in Chatsworth Park. This garden has been created in such a way that the community will be able to plant their own plant(s) as a living memory for anything, such as a lost loved one or pet. You will be able to purchase engraved plaques with your memory from the town council, to be placed on the upright posts that surround the garden. Bench seating, kindly donated by Telscombe Residents Association, will be placed within the garden so you can sit and enjoy the landscape and views. Fundraising by the Mayor has ensured there were funds to cover all materials; labour has been donated so there is no cost to the taxpayer. Thanks go to the town clerk Nancy, EH Treecare, Countryman Contractors, J Webb plant hire, Winners plant hire, Jewson and Parkers Building Supplies for donating their time and discounts on materials. A date for the official opening will be announced shortly.

ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING: The council’s annual meeting is taking place at 7.30pm on Wednesday in Telscombe Civic Centre. At this meeting a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be appointed, and Committee Chairmen. Members of the public are welcome to attend this and all other council or committee meetings and can ask questions during a 15 minute allocated slot at the beginning of each meeting.

COMMITTEE MEETING: Planning and Highways meeting on Monday at 7.30pm.

FOOTNOTES: Well, as the old song goes, ‘The sun has put his hat on, etc.,’ What a glorious feeling to have the warmth of the sun on my neck, and the heady scent of newly mown grass filling my nostrils. The lawns look a treat thanks to my lovely man who comes every fortnight to mow them. The flowerbeds are gradually being cleared of the weeds that have sprung up in spring. Another real treat this week as well. Have just finished the back to back episodes of The Hollow Crown and Henry 5th, made in 2012. What a brilliant, wonderful piece of work. The cream of the British acting profession, making every scene a master class in classical acting and characterisation. Simon Russell Beale’s Falstaff a complete triumph. The cast list reading like a who’s who of the best of British theatre, Technically flawless and beautifully lit. Nearly six hours of superb television. Although I watched it originally, it was still a joy to behold it again. Accents and projection perfect, enunciation and pronunciation spot on thank God. My faith in the English theatre has been restored. And a wonderful way to round off the week.
