Temporary cafe in park is open until new one built

A TEMPORARY cafe has been opened in Hotham Park in Bognor Regis.

New operator Pistachios in the Park served its first customers from the unit on Saturday (May 8).

It has been installed while the company works on its plans for a permanent cafe.

The company won the right to design, bid and operate a catering venue in the beautiful surroundings of the park during a competitive tendering process run by Arun District Council last year.

Council chief executive Nigel Lynn said: “Once delivered, the Pistachios permanent cafe will be a welcome addition to the park and wider Bognor, offering an all-year round comfortable and friendly indoor cafe for less clement weather as well as outdoor options for warmer, sunny days.”

The interim catering service by the boating lake will enable the park’s visitors to continue to buy refreshments until the new Pistachios concession is open.

The arrangement will enable the company to build its presence in the park during the interim period, get to know the park’s users and deliver a catering service.

This will take place while the potentially disruptive works to build the permanent cafe take place nearby.

It is hoped by the council this will lessen the inconvenience to park users in the coming months.

As reported, the location of the permanent cafe has annoyed the Hotham Park Heritage Trust.

Its members claim it will take away too much of the park’s open space used for community events and delivery lorries will have to be driven into the middle of the park.

Previous cafe operator Dawn Bunker also stated her anger last month at her treatment by Arun.
