It is hoped the ‘temporary teaching village’ will be established in six weeks, ready for the 400 displaced pupils to use on their return from the half term break.

The 117 portable single-storey buildings will occupy a 1.5 acre site on the athletics track and provide a school hall, dining hall, interactive library, IT suites, standard classrooms, washroom facilities and a canteen.

Many of the eco-friendly temporary buildings were first designed and produced for Bohunt School while it underwent an expansion.

Portable Offices, who are providing the units, said the buildings have a contemporary feel, with bright wall finishes and plenty of natural light wherever possible.

Students are currently being taught in a variety of locations around the town, including Selsey Town Hall and Bunn Leisure.

The fire, which took hold on the morning of Sunday, August 21 and raged for several hours, was believed to have been started accidentally by a roofer, West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said at the time.
