Ten year old takes Lands End to Dover cycle challenge

A DEDICATED young cyclist will be passing through the local area next week as he attempts to cycle from Lands End to Dover in order to raise money for charity.

Ten year old Jake Phipps, from Pershore, Worcestershire, has set himself the gruelling challenge of cycling 660 miles from Land's End to Dover, raising money for leading children's charity Action for Children - and has persuaded his mum Nic and family friend Philip Woods to take part too.

'Team Bike with Jake' will cycle along Britain's south coast during the first two weeks of August, carrying tents and kits on their bikes, and staying as close as possible to the coastline.

The team are aiming to raise as much sponsorship money as they can for Action for Children '“ a charity that works with vulnerable and disadvantaged children. Jake, Nic and Philip departed Land's End on 2nd August and, if all goes to plan, will arrive in Bexhill on 16thAugust, continuing their journey on to Dover the following day.

Jake said: "I love cycling and I am doing this difficult challenge because I would like to raise lots of money for children who need help."

He added: "It would be brilliant if other cyclists would like to join Team Bike with Jake along the route. We would love to see them."

Jake has been training hard for months, riding his bike, and putting in a lot of hours in the gym. The youngster also climbed Mount Snowdon with his Scout Group in June.
